We have now bred 2 of our females, JOSIE & KALA and are expecting their litters to be born by the first week of June or so. We are still expecting our other female McKENZIE to come in heat yet late this Spring/early summer.

We are not accepting any more deposits on these litters. We have been collecting names on a
waiting list, and will be notifying all when the puppies are born and we know what is available.
Deposits will then be accepted at that time.
We will keep this website updated as to the breeding/whelping status of our future litters and
after the waiting list has been notified, we will post any puppies that may be available on this page.

Wheatens are a wonderful breed, and they most definitely have that cuddly teddy bear super cute factor going for them, but they are NOT an impulse buy. For those of you who are interested in adding a Wheaten as your new family member and may have never met one, we strongly suggest reading up about them and make sure they are the right fit for your family. I am an avid reader, and have read everything about Wheatens I can get my hands on. They are very informative as to the insights into their unique personality. I keep a few extra copies of a couple of the books around. I get them used off of eBay for a dramatically reduced cost than new. The ones I suggest the most are listed here.

Another book I HIGHLY recommend and consider a MUST READ for anyone wanting to adopt a puppy from us or a puppy of any breed is The Art of Raising a Puppy by The Monks of New Skete. This book is not breed specific but a fabulous helpful tool for anyone adopting a puppy and wanting a well-behaved and happy life-long companion. The Monks have raised German Shepherds for 40 years and helped countless other clients with problem dogs. It helps you to see why dogs act like they do and teaches you to be the "pack leader" and earn your dog's respect, not fear. Wonderfully written, easy to understand, and explains with text and pictures. This book was referred to me and I am now recommending it to you as it is the philosophy we are now using to raise our litters to help the puppies get the best start in life we can give them.

The pictures on this page are of previous litters we have raised out of our female KALA and our male TONY. They have all been placed in their new loving forever homes.

We also have 2 of KALA's daughters - JOSIE and McKENZIE. These 2 girls haven't had puppies yet, so will be having their first litters this year.

We have 2 males - TONY, father of the puppies pictured here, who is now retired and enjoying his old age; and our young male WYATT. We plan for Wyatt to be the father of our litters starting this year.

If you are interested in one of our puppies, please read our contract terms that I have copied below. You may contact us via the contact form at the bottom of the page to be put on our waiting list. We will contact the members on our waiting list once the puppies are born and we know what is available.

At that time, we will require a $200 non-refundable deposit to guarantee a puppy from our litters. They are held on a first come, first serve basis per gender in the order the deposits were received. We reserve our puppies by gender only, we will fill your request of color as best we can, but it is much more important to us to match the right puppy personality with the right family & lifestyle (ex families with children vs elderly couple or single adult).

I work during the day, but check email most evenings. I try to respond quickly to all inquiries, within just a couple of days or so. Please be patient with me, I do answer ALL emails. If you don't hear back from me within a few days, please re-email in case it didn't reach me.

OUR TERMS AND GUARANTEES

Our puppies have their tails docked, dew claws removed, and have had their first series of shots when they are ready to come home to you. They come with an AKC limited registration (pet only, no breeding), a 4 generation pedigree, health record showing immunizations and wormings to date, and our puppy kit. We also guarantee our puppies to be free from genetic defects for one year. For full details, please read the copy of our PURCHASE AGREEMENT/DEPOSIT RECEIPT listed below. All of our dogs have had their blood chemistry profiles done for PLE/PLN, RD. If you are unfamiliar with these diseases, please visit the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America's website page about Wheaten health at http://www.scwtca.org/health/index.htm. Although not common, it is information every Wheaten owner should be aware of and informed about.

We require a non-refundable $200 deposit to reserve a puppy. The final amount of $600 will need to be paid prior to picking up or shipping of your puppy. Total cost of $800. We accept CASH, cashiers checks and PayPal. NO PERSONAL CHECKS PLEASE. It is much preferred to have you pick the puppy up, but at certain times we may be able to meet you partway to help you out. No more than 6 hours from us, and contingent upon our working schedules. If you absolutely cannot pick up your puppy and require him/her to be shipped a cost of $250-$300 for shipping and the cost of the airline carrier would be required. We will not ship when it is too hot or too cold. We highly recommend if shipping is necessary, is to arrange to fly in to personally pick up your puppy if possible. We are near Omaha, Nebraska and can meet you at Eppley Airport with your puppy. They are small enough at weaning time that many airlines will allow them to be taken as a carry on in an airline carrier and fly home with you in the cabin of the plane rather than as cargo. We feel it is just too traumatizing to that young of a puppy to be treated as cargo and alone that long.

PURCHASE AGREEMENT / DEPOSIT RECEIPT

The following agreement is between Sherry & Steve Akers, Westwind Wheatens (breeders/owners), hereafter referred to as "Seller", and ____________________________________________________, hereafter referred to as "Purchaser".

In consideration of a purchase price of EIGHT HUNDRED dollars ($ 800.00), of which Two Hundred dollars ($200.00) is a non-refundable Surety of Action deposit, the Seller transfers in fee simple to Purchaser, all rights, privileges and responsibilities associated with the ownership of the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier male / female puppy described below upon payment for, taking possession of puppy and signing of this contract.

Tip sheet per AKC on what to expect from your puppy in the next couple of months at his/her age

Baggie of food containing enough for 3-4 days

DEPOSIT GUARANTEE:

The seller guarantees purchaser the right to purchase a puppy from the below listed litter. We accept a limited number of deposits for each gender per litter and reserve per the order the deposits were received.
If there are more deposits than puppies whelped, purchaser will be offered a puppy from the next litter bred.
If there are not enough of the chosen gender whelped, purchaser will be offered a puppy of the opposite sex from current litter if available, or from the next litter bred.

HEALTH GUARANTEE:

The seller guarantees this dog to be of sound health and temperament at the time of this sale.
This puppy is guaranteed until one year of age against fatal and life-altering congenital disease which adversely affects the health of the dog. This includes severe hip dysplasia, which hampers a dog's natural movement and requires surgery to correct, heart, kidney, pancreas, liver, and spine problems of a severe life-threatening or -altering nature. If the dog dies within its first year of life, the purchaser will pay to have it autopsied to determine the reason. If the reason is congenital, the seller will replace the puppy.
All items covered under this guarantee are by replacement only. We do not give refunds.
Seller will not be responsible for any medical expenses incurred.
Purchaser is aware that buying a puppy means trips to the veterinarian and understands that they will be responsible for all those payments.
The puppy has received proper vaccinations and wormings as of the date of delivery. The purchaser has been informed of these and of future vaccinations and wormings which will be due.
A puppy showing any serious genetic or congenital defect will be replaced as follows: Dog must show the defect by one year of age. Seller must be notified of the problem within two business days of a licensed veterinarian's determination, and seller will provide a replacement puppy of equivalent value. A puppy with a defect must be returned or euthanized with the prior permission of the seller to qualify for a replacement puppy. No refund, in part or in full, will be given.
This guarantee does not include Hypoglycemia (abnormally low levels of blood glucose). This guarantee does not include Coccidia and Kennel Cough, which are not life threatening. Kennel Cough is self-limiting and like the common cold, it must run its course. Full recovery is expected, and Kennel Cough, on its own, is not life-threatening.
There are some disorders which may be produced by environmental factors. This includes thyroid dysfunction, allergies, demodectic mange, and additional autoimmune disorders which are not covered under this guarantee.
Any physical problem which is or could be the consequence of injury is not covered through this guarantee.

CONDITIONS OF SALE:

Purchaser agrees to take this dog to a licensed veterinarian of his choice within 72 hours of taking possession for a physical examination.
Should the dog be determined to be in ill health, the dog may, upon written diagnosis from said veterinarian, be returned for another dog of equal value.
A returned puppy must be returned to the seller in good condition, other than the specified problem, at the purchaser's expense. The owner will then qualify for a replacement puppy. On a replacement puppy, the purchaser is responsible for transportation costs to and from the seller. A replacement puppy will not be provided if the puppy has been bred or euthanized without seller's permission. Replacement puppy will be mutually agreed upon by both parties and puppy will be of comparable quality.
Any veterinarian's diagnosis shall be subject to confirmation by a veterinarian chosen and paid for by the seller. Should said veterinarian not concur with the diagnosis, the matter shall be presented to a third veterinarian mutually agreed upon by the seller and the purchaser.
Purchaser agrees this puppy is being purchased as a companion animal [pet] only, and not for breeding purposes.
Purchaser agrees to have this puppy spayed/neutered on or before the age of one year.
If at any time the purchaser can no longer retain possession of this dog, the seller is to be notified and given FIRST OPTION of resuming full ownership at a price* to be mutually agreed upon by both parties.
Purchaser agrees to provide regular veterinary exams and vaccinations as well as the proper daily maintenance and quality foods to keep the dog in good health.
Purchaser agrees to inform Seller at once if problems develop and to follow all veterinary recommendations for their solution. If these things are not done, all guarantees are void.
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is the dog to be placed in a pet shop, animal shelter, or similar establishment**.
All Guarantees pertain to the original purchaser only.
Agreement of all conditions will be verified through your payment for the puppy.
This contract is binding and supersedes all past agreements. This contract is void if the conditions are not fulfilled.
Purchaser agrees by signing this agreement, that they fully understand this contract. This contract is under the jurisdiction of the State of Iowa, in the county of Montgomery. It is understood that the place of venue will be in Montgomery County, Iowa.
Puppy will be at least eight weeks of age before it will adopted.

   * This would take into consideration the costs incurred by the breeder in caring for the dog and locating a new home. The dog will be returned with the AKC papers and any medical records.
         ** Failure to comply with the above conditions of sale will hold the purchaser liable for $1500.00 punitive damages payable to the seller upon demand. Any and all court costs, & attorney fees will be paid by the purchaser at the time of the court's decision.

By my/our signature(s), the Seller(s) acknowledges receipt of non-refundable Surety of Action deposit toward purchase of above listed puppy.
